ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT COULD BE THE LACK OF INTEREST THAT MANY SCHOOLS HAVE WHEN TEACHING THIS SECOND LANGUGE,BECAUSE THEY FEEL IT IS DIFFICULT TO TEACH CLASSES WITH GREAT AMOUNT OF STUDENTS , ALSO STUDENTS WITH DIFFICULTIES IN SOME LEARNING AREAS.
ANOTHER ASPECT I BELIEVE IT IS IMPORTANT TO MENTION IS THE METHODOLOGY USED WHEN TEACHING ENGLISH,MOST OF THE TIME AND IN THE MAJORITY OF SCHOOLS ,THIS SECOND LANGUAGE IS TEACH FOCUSING THE OBJECTIVES IN THE GRAMATICAL ASPECT INSTEAD OF USING METHODOLOGIES CONCERNING WITH THE ABILITY OF SPEAKING. AND THIS IS REALLY A PROBLEM
BECAUSE WE HAVE TO MOTIVATE OUR STUDENTS AND MAKE THEM FEEL RELAXED WHEN SPEAKING ENGLISH.,THEY HAVE TO FEEL FREE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES.
ONE ASPECT WE CAN NOT FORGET IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STATE-FUNDED SCHOOLS AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS.THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS NORMALY TEACH ENGLISH FROM KINDER , WHILE OTHER SCHOOLS TEACH ENGLISH FROM FIFTH GRADE
Hi Fran !!!
ResponderEliminarYes, I am certanly sure that grammar is important when you're teaching-learning English, because students need de functions to express their ideas, most of them know words and maybe some phrases, but they don't know how to use it. However, the results of SIMCE is just the reflect that here in Chile, we are by far to be an bilingual country.
To improve this big dilemma, we have to combat all the drawbacks about English education:
* Sudents's lack of interest in English
* Mediocre English Teachers
* State-funded schools education
* Add more hours of English at schools
* Improve the resources
and great number of things...
Bye Fran see you in class...
